After a year and a half of fundraising and construction the Lwimba Resource Center and Library was completed in March of 2009!

Dear American Donors,
On behalf of all schools in Lwimba Zone and the Lwimba Community, I would like to personally thank you for the kind donations that you made to us to enable us to build our new Resource Center/Library. Without your help this project wouldn't have succeeded.
We shall safeguard and develop this project to maximize the benefit to our pupils, teachers, and parents in the hopes that literacy will improve here. Please continue the spirit of good will you have shown. Good wishes.

The opening ceremony for the ZRC/ Library included speeches, drama and dancing from the students, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and library tours.
As the books are sorted and labeled they are put on the shelves. Only about 1/4 of the books have gone through the entire process of acquisition. The school will continue to processing books and putting them in their proper category using the Dewey Decimal System.
The children come to read in the library before and after school.

Construction complete! The official opening was celebrated with a ceremony and tours.

There is enough money left for a few shelves and two chairs.

Books arrived from Mpika. 140 boxes in all. The librarian, Mr. Lungu, the assistant librarian, Mr. Hiyende, and Keli will start sorting and labeling all the books.

Letters have gone out to local Zambian companies seeking support and in-kind donations. Our next library committee meeting is Monday and we have invited all the ward-counselors and village headmen/women in the area to discuss our progress. We will also decide on a schedule for when each village can start molding and burning bricks.
We will be celebrating Women's Day on March 7 in Lwimba. The women's group and the HIV/AIDS club will perform songs, dances, skits, and poems.

Sorry this is long overdue.
The construction has started! We are in fact half way through. This week the workers are building the walls and next week the windows should be in! I believe the building will be finished by mid October. We won't have lots of money left for shelves and tables but will do what we can. Books are on the way right now and should get here in October. Then the fun begins with organizing the library, training a librarian, and working with the library committee so everything is maintained and operating nicely!
Thank you to all who donated! I will keep you posted! Hopefully more often than in the past!
