To give you an idea of what your money will buy, here are some of the building materials and their costs:
- $13.41 = 1 Iron sheet
- $845.53 = All the iron sheets!
- $39.47 = 1 Hardwood door
- $65.79 = 1 Books shelf (made by our local carpenter! Mr. Mbewe.)
- $65.79 = 1 Meeting table
- $15.79 = 1 Chair
- $15.79 = 1 Window frame
- $289.47 = All the windows!
- $25.00 = 1 Litre of paint
- $16.31 = 1 Bag of cement
- $7244.21 = ALL the Bags of cement!
- Organize books drives (through projecteducate.org or also fundraise for shipping)
- Organize fundraisers in your social, community or religious groups, scout troops, local schools and libraries, or youth groups.
- Put a donation box with information and pictures in your front lobby or front desk (see fundraising tools)
- Print off the ABCs of Lwimba book and "sell" for donations.
- Send over your favorite book (to Keli Campbell, c/o DEBS, PO Box 33, Chongwe, Zambia, AFRICA)
- Have your class write stories and send a notebook to be added to our library
- Organize a drive for old reading glasses – many woman in the village complain of poor eyesight but do not have means to correct it in any way
- Send old reading games for our resource center
- Send a post card to someone else who might be interested (see fundraising tools)
- Tell other people about this project!
The last is the easiest but perhaps the most significant. The more people who hear about this project, the more likely it will be successful. Send this site to your family, friends, co-workers, post it on your own blog, or print off the fundraising tools to display or mail. My social network is limited, but my network's network is limitless!
